ABOUT HANDWRITING AND BIRTHDAYS

I was looking for the inspiration for a new logo.

It was an energy company and I thought that it would be interesting to play with the idea of invention. Somehow, I thought that putting together the inventors Leonardo da Vinci and Nikola Tesla would be a good starting point. While searching through some Tesla’s manuscripts, I stumbled upon one letter that he had written while staying in The Waldorf Astoria, New York. It was really, the handwriting that I was interested in the most of all, because I wanted to underline the importance of its uniqueness. So. I compared it to some of the Leonardo’s writing, then worked on graphic treatment of the formulas that both guys invented…

We had the presentation a couple of weeks later. Among the people from the energy company who came to see us it was the CEO himself. The lights went off and I started the slideshow. It was one of those presentations that you couldn’t really predict what reaction was going to be to Leonardo, Tesla, and then, Tesla’s letter. I had that slide of Tesla’s letter on for a while talking about being authentic, when the CEO pointed to the date in the top right corner of the letter: “It is my birthday”, he said with a large smile on his face, “I was born on June 10th! Not in 1902, but that was the day!”

The proposal was approved during that meeting.
What can I say? There are no accidents.
