WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?

So, you and others are called to design a new logo for the new company. It is, actually, a group of companies, and you did work for them before. There is a certain trust that has been established already. You are told again what they do and what their expectations are like. They tell you that this is a sort of closed competition and that the winner is the only one who gets the economic compensation. No problem, you’re OK with that. You did that before and it worked out good for you. You do have a couple of ideas you want to work with. Even though, you leave it over the weekend and start working only when you’re sure that they are really worth pursuing. You choose the colour scheme, get the provisional tag line and play with the most appropriate symbols. Examining different type options are part of the overall process. After a few days you are ready to share your proposals with your client. You are confident...

Few weeks later you get the answer. It is not one you did expect. Bummer. So be it, that’s life, sometime you win, sometime you lose. Now, you’re curious to see the logo that did get the prize, as you’re sure, it is the best one they have chosen. And, eventually, you get to see it. It is hard to believe: The proportions between graphic symbol and the name of the company and the tag line are completely out of balance and type is to thin to be reproduced properly in different sizes. It lacks sturdiness for the sort of company that is supposed to represent. It just looks and feels very wrong. But, then, hey, someone must have thought that’s all just fine.

So, what really happened?

I don’t know.
