PROCESS – HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

I doodle all the time. Mostly on paper, but I sometimes do draw with my fingers in the air too. It reminds me of playing chess without the board. It helps me conceptualize ideas by translating them into something more tangible.

I remember one of the meetings with a new client. It was about branding. Core values, corporate philosophy, share holders, meeting expectations and leaving a legacy. While listening to all that I didn’t stop doing sketches on a small piece of paper I had in front me. By the end of the briefing I had it. It was there. All of it. The rest was the postproduction. We presented it to the client a week later. They were very happy.

Now, the question is, how long does it take to do something?

One hour, two hours, two days, two weeks, a month? I usually say – a whole life. Everything you have seen and experienced is there. It is a mind-blowing process that starts with an infinite amount of combinations and ends up with two or three of the most adequate solutions. So, how do you translate “whole life experience” into billable hours? Well, that’s a tricky part and every project consultant’s nightmare. In the same time, it is one of the most important parts of any business and everyone has to live with it.

The sooner you learn how to do it, the better.
