I HAVE AN IDEA!!!

Well who doesn't...

The biggest problem creative types have got is that they can’t keep their mouths shut. I don’t mean they talk a lot, well some of them might do so, but no, I’m referring to their childish geniunety that makes them creative in the first place, that very unique characteristic of theirs that let them spread around their thoughts without really thinking about it... And, to make things more interesting, there is always someone listening. Or watching. Or both.

How can you possibly protect an idea?

Registering is not an option. All the services invented in order to register ideas are just proving that is almost impossible to do so. Every little change of an idea is another idea that you have to register separately... It’s laughable and expensive. OK, that is if you’re an inventor. Someone like Tesla, who, obviously could be considered as genius. Well, not genius enough, when you realize how he ended up and how many of his ideas and patents have been attributed to Edison. Or stories about Windows copying Apple, copying Xerox...

Of course, the reason I’m writing about this has nothing to do with Tesla. It´s this pattern that is repeating itself over and over again... And it´s disturbing. You know, when someone you know (probably someone you work with, or you did work for) in the middle of conversation comes up with that new idea that sounds soooo familiar. You know what I’m talking about. That great project about social networking, or that Metro stuff, or that material that is not yet invented, or a new website, or that tagline for the campaign that was suspended because that client was short of cash at that time, or those logos that you did on a piece of paper, or designs for those watches that you see with someone's else signature...

What are you suppose to do then?

Well, I don't know. Sit down and write about it, I guess.

People have been stealing ideas since the beginning of time. And the best way to protect them is to not talk about them. Period.

By the way, let me tell you about one idea I had...
